Joseph Allan Christian was born at "Woodbourn," Charles City County, Va. 19 September 1880. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1902 and was a public school principal until entering Union Theological Seminary (Richmond) in 1905 from which he graduated in 1908. He married Evelyn Smith (b. 1882). Christian was a Presbyterian minister in Virginia, Mississippi and Louisiana and served as moderator of the synods of Mississippi (1929) and Louisiana (1944).
